Calling all Dog Lovers: BYOD-Bring Your Own Dog

On Wednesday, August 12, gather under the Historic Shambles (2nd Street between Pine and Lombard Streets) with your favorite furry pal for a screening of the family favorite flick, Beethoven.

With the growing awareness of the horrors of puppy mills and dog fighters, the District is dedicating a night to honor man’s best friend for the love and companionship they provide. Philadelphia Greyhound Connection, Inc. (Connection), a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting in the re-homing of retired racing Greyhounds, will be arriving at the Shambles at 7:00pm with retried racing greyhounds in need of a loving home. The Connection is an all-volunteer group, founded in 2003, who actively find foster and permanent homes for greyhounds from racing tracks along the Northeastern corridor of the U.S.

In addition to the Connection, PAWS, Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society, the city’s renown animal shelter dedicated to saving Philadelphia’s homeless, abandoned and unwanted animals, will also be present with some adoptable canines. Even if you’re not in the market for a new pet, bring a friend who may be! Chic Petique, Philadelphia’s finest pet stop, selling all natural foods as well as the latest fashions for your four legged friend, will be sponsoring the screening, offering discounted coupons to the store’s merchandise. Humans should bring their own popcorn, but the Petique will have delicious doggy treats and water bowls out for all movie pups. Prior to the screening; local artist Shannon McLaughlin will be displaying some of her amazing animal artwork. Using colored pencils, markers, and acrylic paints, McLaughlin translates her love of animals into art. Her work will be displayed in the shambles throughout the evening. This night of the Summer Outdoor Screenings is going to be not only family friendly, heart- warming and fun, but educational as well: bringing awareness to the community about the humane treatment of dogs, as well as the importance of dog adoption.
