Do you like picnics? Sure you do. Did you consider yourself a “thespian” in high school and run around in those super goofy and awkward Elizabethan pants that kind of resembled the ones MC Hammer wore? Maybe…
If you answered yes to one or both questions, then definitely check out the upcoming Picnic Competition at the Mann Center.
Orchestra patrons will have the opportunity to show off their most creative settings designed around specific themes based on the evening’s musical selection. Use of elaborate props and costumes is encouraged.
On Tuesday, June 30th, the program is Mozart and a Midsummer Night’s Dream. On Tuesday, July 21st, the Philadelphia Orchestra will be performing Hollywood Classics Under the Stars: Star Wars and More. And guess what Geekadelphians! The picnic theme here will be Star Wars! The final picnic competition will be on Tuesday, July 28th. The orchestra will perform Verdi and Rachmaninoff and the theme will be ‘Fall in Love Again.” How sweet.
All concert attendees are eligible to enter; contestants will be given balloons to identify the entries. Three winners will be chosen, based on the best representation of the evening’s theme. Winners will be announced later in the evening.
Tickets range from $30.00 to $50.00 for pavilion seating, and $10.00 for lawn seats. For detailed ticket information, call 215.893.1999 or visit the Mann Center box office at 52nd and Parkside Avenue in Fairmount Park, or buy online at www.manncenter.org
